Overview
The Port Elliot
Caravan & Tourist Park occupies 12 acres of prime coastal land
only 80kms from Adelaide. Located on the foreshore of beautiful
Horseshoe Bay in Port Elliot, the Park is an easy 1 hour drive from
metropolitan Adelaide, through the scenic Fleurieu Peninsula.
The current Caravan Park originated from a camping ground that was formally
established in the 1930's on the foreshore of Horseshoe Bay. As caravans became
more popular and tourist numbers to the district grew, the Horseshoe Bay Caravan
Park was extended to encompass most of the beach frontage.

In 1982, after extensive community debate, it was decided to re-locate the Caravan
Park along the Eastern end of Horseshoe Bay and extending across to Crockery
Bay.
The Park is located within a parcel of land known as the Basham Beach Regional
Reserve.
This magnificent environmentally
significant area surrounds us. 15 powered sites still retain absolute
beach frontage onto Horseshoe Bay, and in fact, many people who
were occupants of the original Park are still visitors today.
The Caravan Park re-development was designed to take full advantage of the
unrivalled views of Horseshoe Bay and Crockery Bay across to the Coorong. The
new Park was twice the size, direct beach access was retained and extensive
landscaping and recreation areas were incorporated throughout the design of the
Caravan Park.
From its inception until 1990, Council Managers and Caretakers ran the Caravan
Park. On 1 March 1990, 8 years after the re-development, the District Council of Port
Elliot and Goolwa sold a Lease to Amo & Kate Cotellessa who are still the current
Proprietors.
An expansion of accommodation facilities was immediately undertaken to increase
the number of Ensuite Cabins and Units to make available an additional 100 beds.
With a guest occupancy exceeding 1700 per day during peak seasons, the Park is
the major Tourism accommodation base in the Alexandrina Council region. During
the Christmas/New Year school holiday period over 10,000 people pass through the
Caravan Park.

Recreation facilities within the Caravan Park were enhanced with extensive
playground re-development, basketball facilities, seating and all weather BBQ areas
were established and complimented with a major tree planting program of native
coastal species.

In mid-1998 the RAA recognised the hard work undertaken by the Proprietors of the
Port Elliot Caravan and Tourist Park and awarded the Park a 4-star rating. Port
Elliot is the first Caravan Park on the southern Fleurieu Peninsula to achieve this
rating and one of only a handful in South Australia.
Amo & Kate now employ 6 full-time
staff members and are open 7 days a week throughout the year.
